Clean tracking links before you share them
Marketing URLs often include long tracking parameters. Learn how to share cleaner links without breaking the destination page.
What those long URLs are doing
Shared links from shops, newsletters, and social apps frequently include parameters used for campaign tracking, click IDs, or session hints. They can make a URL ugly, leak referrer context, or simply look unprofessional in a message to a client.
Cleaning a link usually means keeping the core destination and removing unnecessary query noise — without changing the page you intended to share.
A careful cleanup habit
Paste the link into a cleaner, review the result, then open it once to confirm it still lands correctly. Some sites require specific parameters to work; if a cleaned link breaks, fall back to the original.
For posters and packaging, pair a cleaned URL with a QR code so people do not have to type a messy string.
When you should keep parameters
Affiliate links, signed download URLs, and some login redirects intentionally encode state in the query string. Cleaning those can break access. If a cleaned link fails, restore the original and only remove clearly marketing-only tags when you understand the destination.
For personal sharing — articles, product pages, maps pins — cleanup is usually safe and makes messages easier to read on mobile.
